16845710338_e474c10974_bThe fears we don’t face become our limits.

Raise your hand if the fear of what others think, the fear of failure, the fear of rejection, or the fear of letting someone down or not being enough has ever stopped you.

(insert cricket chirp)

Fear is a theme. Deep inside everyone I have worked with, there is a fear of some sort.

Will Smith makes a profound statement in the movie After Earth:

“The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me danger is very real, but fear is a choice.”

Wishing you were not afraid or pretending you’re not by overcompensating, isn’t real either.

Fear can turn us into someone other than our true selves.

“Be fearless!” they say. But fearlessness has never appealed to me. The persona of being fearless, a badass, or an epic sexy self doesn’t resonate with me, and if I try to be fearless, I’m not being my true self either.

So what how do we face fear?

With courage, baby.images

Uncovering your antidote to fear creates freedom. Choose courage. Be Divergent. Different. Stubborn perhaps? Use Faith. Love. Truth maybe? I use the words moxie and meaning for “courage”.

Whatever you have inside you that is courageous, draw upon it!

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Speak up in that meeting! Create that piece you’ve been wanting to! Step out and be seen! Expose yourself to criticism!

Is it scary? Yes! Will your mind try to convince you you’re still not good enough? Yes! Will you break through an area of life that keeps you from growing? Y-to-the-es!

Pick a limit. Face the fear. Choose courage. Once and for all.
